Talking first attempt to macro

this photo was taken with a canon 450D
on a cloudy day with an
Aperture of 5.6
ISO of 400
6000K
focal length 55mm
lens: canon 18mm -55mm lens, I got within centimeters of my subject. I do not have a macro lens at the moment cause I've only been doing photography for three months and still trying to get the experience and money to afford other lenses.

please let me know what you think and what you can suggest
much appreciated

Great effort for your first real attempt.

For me, (and I am NO expert ) I would have tried to get a slightly different angle on the spider and maybe in post processing cropped the image so that it shows less of the surrounding vegetation/distractions and more of the subject/spider.

Not a criticism, just a suggestion. Nice pic

Oh, and I think this might be in the wrong section.

Default My first, very first, shot with my new camera...

Now, I've never used a digital camera. So this is the first shot. I'm going to keep it and see if I'm any better a year from now. Excuse the dust on the flower. Gosh, I had no clue these cameras pick up dust!! LOL
(note to self, dust before taking photos)

You may have gotten alittle too close to the subject as it doesn't really appear to be in the sharpest focus, closest focusing distance on that lens is right around 10 inches I think? I can't wait to get a macro lens too

Also a cheaper alternative ( however, not a replacement ) to a macro lens would be a Canon 250d or Canon 500d, which could get you started. Check those out and read some reviews, see if that may work for you.

i think it's a very cool shot.

the suggestions i'd make are to get the spider a little more in focus and get the really blurry vegetation in the front out of the shot. i found it to be distracting. just my opinion.
