Default DOF with stacked lenses

I tried stacking my 50mm 1.8 (reversing) in front of my 18-70mm lens. Just hand held for now. The DOF is very very short. Here are two picture of coins. These are cropped to get rid of the vingnetting. Any (cheap) suggestions on how to eliminate/minimize this?

1). Use a tripod/flash, and stop down (i.e., close down the aperture to something very small like f/16 or f/22--this may be one time you want to sacrifice sharpness to diffraction effect for the increased DoF).

2). Use a tilt-shift lens and the Scheimpflug effect to increase the DoF.

3). Take multiple exposures set at different focus points, and then combine them in post production; aka "focus stacking."

scheimphlug principle only works if you can alter the angle of the camera back-sensor angle, lens plane angle and subject plane need to meet at a single point. regards, Ken

Try macro tubes & tether camera to a computer - the software will allow you to adjust the focus while viewing a zoomed area of the image.

This calculator is helpful if you go the tube root
