Talking Grasshopper

Hi All. I saw this guy creeping around my deck the other day and decided to try to snap a pic with my new camera. I'm still not great at macro photography but do love it - especially with bugs and flowers. They are so different up close. I hope you like it. It's not quite as sharp as I would have liked it but I was trying to balance up close and take the shot before my little friend jumped away.

I like the shot except for the fact the rest of the body is missing. I did crop it to have the head more or less centred - trying to get the dots in the eye to show up. I had originally thought of using this pic for the Eyes Have it assignment but missed the cut off day. :-( Enjoy.

This is a really good shot. The focus seems to be fine. You can even see the little hairs on the back of his neck. Nice job.

Thanks FocalFrenzy! I love macro shots but I find it hard with my point and shoot because you have to get up close and personal to these bugs. Ha. I like to though...it's like a little game to see how close I can get with my camera before they escape. I was practically touching this one!

Yes, I did see the little hairs... I would never have known grasshoppers had hair on them. Maybe it's just me...I can be very critical of my shots sometimes. :-(

Thanks for looking. :-D

good shot... nothing wrong with it.

the one thing i hate about macro photography is the shadow you get over the subject if the lighting isnt perfect..

but hey.. thats the way it is.. unless you have a ring flash..

Thanks all. A bit late getting back here to this, I didn't realize there were any more posts on it. Sorry.

I used the macro setting on my point and shoot camera and pretty much snuck up as close as I could get without scaring him off. Although I had to be patient and very slow, it's great when nature cooperates as well. :-D Always makes it worth the effort.

Still hoping to get myself a DSLR in the next year so I can really play around with lenses and other things. My point and shoot has been great to me and I love it but, I'd love to take it a little more forward. I loved my original SLR - before kids and needing a quick shot. :-D

Thanks all for the nice comments. :-D
