Default Snowdrop Windflower

I took this Anemone flower in my garden. I think it is called a Snowdrop Wind-flower?!?

I tried to get a neutral background by using a very fast shutter time. I had to step down to f/8 to ensure a sharp picture with my Sigma lens. The shoot was done around midday and it was cloudy.

EXIF: Camera: Canon 450D, Exposure: 1/2000 sec., Aperture: f/8, Focal Length: 300 mm, ISO Speed: 200, Exposure Bias: -1 EV

What do you think?
- is the DOF to shallow?

Hi Bo,
Nice exposure and tonal range on your macro. Even with stopping down to much smaller apertures, you will find depth of field to be small. Much depends on how far your camera is from the subject as well as where you actually place the point of focus. Depth of field generally extends forward in a smaller amount than away from the point of focus. Some subscribe to the 1/3 to 2/3 rule meaning DOF comes forward 1/3 and carries away from the point of focus by 2/3 of the total range of the DOF.
For my personal taste, I feel black may be too strong here both in heaviness of tone as well as the amount of black space in the frame. Have you tried using sheets of colored paper as neutral or contrasting backgrounds?
