Default Macro Magnification

I recently bought a Canon 100mm Macro lens. The lens is listed as having a magnification of 1x. However, if I attach it to a camera with a 1.6x crop like my 350D, does it become a 1.6x Macro lens?

The magnification should remain the same. Basically the crop factor means it will crop the size of the picture. You will notice the biggest difference in this if you take a wide angle shot. Here is an explanation of crop factor: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/C...op-Factor.aspx

As I understand it, a true macro picture is anything that displays at a ratio of 1:1 or larger on the camera sensor. I took some pictures of a ruler and (comparing how many mm I could see against the size of the sensor) established that, using my Raynox adapter at the 55mm end of my kit lens, I could only manage 1:2... but that's enough for now!
