Default Macro flower?

I'm guessing this would count as macro. I'm wondering if the composition was good. I think this is a good shot but some little things you find distracting would be helpful to know. Thanks

Hi Chase! very pretty flower...looks like a daisy of some sort. Your composition is nice too. From everything I heard, true macro photography is when you can see an ant on a flower so close, that you can see it smile....All jokes aside, go google macro photos and you'll get a better understanding. As a rule, a macro lens is required. Mind you I have taken a few close ups with a 70-200mm lens. Here's a couple examples. Unfortunately, they don't count as macro shots.

Oops! can only download one picture for now. I'm new at this game too.

Go check the "Macro photography" thread in this website. You will get the picture!

Chase.noye,

We have a relaxed definition of Macro, covering closer closeups too. But I moved your thread from Critique because of these missing elements again:

mywickedstepmother,

We leave it up to the original poster usually to decide if it's OK to add your photos to their thread. Generally it's better to just comment on their work, offer suggestions. Starting your own thread is easy and gives your work the attention it deserves too. Two people in one thread showing photos gets confusing when comments overlap.

Chase - pretty flower! Compositionally it's in a good spot but I would like to have seen more flowers in the picture. The dead heads are a bit distracting. Remember it's okay to crop in if your lens doesn't get you close enough.

I actually liked the fact of the dead flowers on the side. I thought it added something unique to the picture.

Chase.noye,

Agreed, there is a uniqueness there, but there's good-unique and so-so-unique. It's the deadness and unappealing nature of the dead flowers that gives a mixed message. A bride standing next to a Port-a-potty is unique, but not so appealing. It's all about perception.

I believe the other 2 blossoms(bottom and bottom/right), are a bit distracting.
