Default help with macro lens

I recently purchased the Opteka 10x macro lens from Amazon. It did not come with any instruction. It mounted quite well with my both of my Canon 18-55mm and 70 -300mm lenses, but I can not get focus. I have tried both manual and auto, but still no focus. I am new to photography so I am not sure if I need a coupling ring. Please help with advice and tips. thanks

I've got a Marumi +10 and had the same problem when I started to experiment with it.

You have to get very close to your subject. On my 100mm the min. focus distance to ~200mm but with the +10 I need to reduce this down to around ~50mm or LESS.

And, of course, you can no longer focus to infinity...

That's the disadvantage of macro filters. They limit your focussing distance to about 3cm. (Depending on the filter)

Default Thanks

Thanks for the tips. It worked ok now, but I guess if I really would like to macro photography I'll have to spent more money with macro lenses instead of the filters.
