Default Spider in the Sun

Here is a spider in a large tangle of webs, taken in the evening. I liked the way his legs were illuminated by the sun--it made them somewhat transparent.

Thanks! I had 'em too because my head was right by a bunch of webs and I didn't know if there were any other spiders lurking about!!! They make for good pictures but they sure give me shivers!!

Looks good to me....I like the sunlight shining through the legs too Spider legs are filled with fluid that the body pumps fluid in and out of to make them move.....like a hydraulic system

I think the spider is some sort of Tetragnathidae....commonly called long-legged or long-jawed spiders. Often found on nice big orb webs in reeds and long grass by rivers and ponds.

Default Nice capture.

I've not yet been successful with the spider web macros. My favorite subject to date has been a tie between my two cats, one who is no longer with us, and hummingbirds. I have about 1500 images from these subjects.

Spider webs and a hummingbird garden kinda go hand-in-hand. I've actually seen one of my birds snatch a spider straight from the center of its web white circling the trellis it was attached to. that would have been a stellar shot if I could have captured it.

Is it better to have light overhead or use flash? I've always ended up with blurry shots and can't tell it's a web/spider.

Thank you. I only really cropped and rotated the photo. I used the auto adjust to brighten the color, that's it.

I'm really, really new at using editing software so I can't really do anything, yet!! I only know how to do basic things like cropping, rotating and very little color changes. I guess that's why it takes me FOREVER to take pictures because I know that the original should be pretty good since I can't edit it!! LOL!

Thank you, I wish I had some hummingbirds around my place--they sound like fun.

I've found that the spider shots are best with adequate outside lighting instead of the flash. The times that the flash has fired on some of my shots, it kinda made the spider blurry at times. Not to mention the shadow that the spider casts if it's on a background will show up.

On the first one below, I used the flash since I was inside and I was able to make the background 'black-out'. He was on the back of a chair.

On this one, I didn't use a flash... Here, he was on my cell phone. This was one of those little jumping spiders so I had to follow that sucker all over the place to catch a shot!!!

Default Macro mode?

Are you using the flower/macro setting? I've gotten the best results with my point and shoot in macro/flower mode for things like ladybugs even.
lady bug or beetle?

That's actually blurry for a macro, but the right little claw has greater, along with the right shell and dirt, detail as they were in focus. That image is sharpened, probably excessively too. I, too, am just learning how to do the post snap edits. That's where the "wow" seems to happen. I was shocked to see how dull and flat the images are without some color boosting, sharpening, etc.
