Default First try at Macro

This was my first try at a Macro shot taken with a Canon S5IS.

orian_m42, Welcome

All the additional information you include now in the beginning post of your thread, will help people see what went into the creation of your image.

Is it cropped? I would think about leaving a little more room around the dragonfly. Were you on a tripod? That might have given a sharper image. Otherwise for a first try, it looks good.

Thanks Jiminy i croped as tight as possible to fit here the orignal is much larger, I didnot have a tripod with me at the time amd nothing to support the camera with at the area the shot was taken.

I love it. The thing that's special is that the shadow adds a lot of depth. "Bug" shots are tricky. Many real Macro shots give you a lot of time to maneuver and fine tune. Bugs and bees have a tendancy to fly away just as you line up your shot. Had you caught the damsel fly with wings spread that would have been a plus.

While I have had birds pose perfectly...insects are less inclined to give the ideal moment.
Damsel flys,unlike Dragonflies, tend to rest wings closed unless they are drying their wings or spreading them to shed excess heat.
