Ok, I will explain my techniques when photographing insects. I happened to find a VERY lethargic moth a few years ago. Actually, I think it was old and near death. Usually, you won't be able to shoot one for a half hour non-stop from real close up.
But the thing is, don't make sudden movements, try to either use a remote, or some means to click the shutter that doesn't involve you being there, and leave "enticements" near the lens (sugar, soft drink etc) With Mothra here, I grabbed my Canon S3 (I took a few with my SLR, but I don't have a good macro lens, so I think the S3 in supermacro mode took better shots) and put a white card down for it to climb on. That being done, I just carefully went around it and shot. Oh, and don't use a flash if you can avoid it, unless you have the macro lights for it. Please visit my website at www.sjhfoto.com to see more of my work. Among other things, I have a gallery of macro shots. |
