A light tent is designed to provide light all over: you'll want a light on the top and generally one on the left/right too. Dont put one on the back.

For static subjects using a tripod and light tent, the important thing is that all the lights be the same.
Ordinary, cheap tungsten lights have a very clean black-body curve, so with the right white balance setting, they'll provide very nice results. CFLs (and to a lesser extent "daylight" tungstens) have much spikier color curves, so with some subjects color rendition can be problematic. Brighter lights can cause heat problems, but they do make shooting a bit easier.
