Default Practicing Macro

I have been trying to practice macro shots. I used flowers I was given for my birthday. Below are my 2 favorite shots.

Any tips, comments, suggestions?

those really are quite cool.
did you photoshop these at all?

the pink one is the best i think.. (in terms of composition)

the lower one causes my eye to be drawn up the stork a bit as it is more in focus at the top than near the other subjects

Cheers

I like them both equally. Great shots, but I think I would have come down on the ISO speed a little to take out all the grain. Large image shows it a lot.

Or did you have a reason for using ISO1600??

ISO 1600 was me not paying attention...

I photoshopped to crop and used the auto contrast but it didn't change much.

I do not have a whole lot of skills in photoshop.

Thanks for the comments.

These are great - what lens did you use? Thanks for sharing.

try different angles and position the flowers so that the light comes from the side and from behind

Keep on the good work

I've moved this to the macro section as, although it is partly about composition, it is all about macro.

It would be useful to know what equipment was used for the shot and basic settings, like shutter speed, aperture, etc. I know we can look on Flickr and find out things, such as that they were taken with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT but when things are busy round here people are pushed for time and a bit more info up front helps.

What I think both of them could do with is a bit more sharpness - a rock solid camera and narrower aperture would help, although you may also be able to punch up the details with some post processing.
