Question on Macro Lighting

I am trying to do more macro stuff, and am saving for a true macro lens (perhaps Tamron 90mm). For now, I use Canon 500D close-up lens with either Nikon 18-200mm or Sigma 70-300 (which, BTW, has a 1:2 magnification in its "macro mode").

I want to get better lighting for my macro shot, but at this time cannot afford a real ring flash (e.g., R1C1 Wireless Close-Up Speedlight System from Nikon)

Having read a bit about possible cheaper alternatives, I have narrowed the options to the following:

1) Just use my SB-600 with a softbox on a flash bracket (like what is suggested here: http://digital-photography-school.co...tml#post762448)

2) Use my SB-600 on the camera together with a ring flash adapter (e.g., The Ring Flash Adapter)

3) Use a ring LED light (e.g., Amazon.com: Macro Ring Flash LED Light! Works with Canon/Sony/Nikon/Sigma lenses!: Camera & Photo)

Which option do you guys think would work best? Has anyone on this forum used 2 or 3? Would appreciate any feedback/advice.
