Default Reverse Primary Lens for Macro

I have not seen it mentioned specifically in any of the threads I have read (but I may have missed some) so my question is this. As long as the correct adapter is used the make of the reversed lens shouldn't make a difference ... correct? Is there any reason I couldn't reverse mount (with an adapter) my old fixed 50mm 1.4 Minolta MD mount lens on my Canon Rebel XSi for shooting macro? As long as the correct adapter is used the make of the reversed lens shouldn't make a difference ... correct?

Thanks, I'm a first time contributor

For reverse mount brand does not make a difference. I have an old Konica 50mm lens and an old Soligar 28mm lens that I reverse mount to my Canons. They work out great

mrteacherdude, thanks for confirming my assumption. I have several older fixed lens of different focal lengths from Canon, Minolta and Konica cameras. Now I can't wait to get the adapters.

Sorry to HiJack your thread PMac.
I was curious to know the difference between reverse mounting a lens and using extension tubes (and the effect of combining the two?). What are the pros and cons of each approach?

What is the most effective method for getting in real close, without physically having to get your lens within a cm of your subject?
I'm struggling to get the REAL close up shots without scaring off my subjects!

(I'm using extension tubes and a sigma 28-105mm lens currently. I can get the focal length down to about 50mm before I'm basically touching my subject... and I'm still not getting the extreme close ups I've seen possible)

Cheers
