What a lovely bright color! I like how you included waterdrops for interest. When you take a macro shot, don't be afraid to get in nice and close. You want to highlight the drops on the petal; backgrounds should be uncluttered and a little out of focus. It is also helpful to use a tripod if you have any camera shake, or if it is breezy, use your hand or a windshield (like a piece of cardboard) to steady the flower. That will help you keep your subject in focus.

Thanks for the reminder on background clutter!

I agree that in this shot my eye tends towards the petal with the water drops on it.

Are you wanting critique on your attempt or do you have thoughts to share on the subject in general? If you just want the critique, we should move this across the critique forum.

This photo is beautiful, but I agree wholeheartedly about the background. I think if it were balck above and below the petal, this picture would be all the more striking

Remarkable red flower. Most staggered the drops of dew on a petal. The corner of survey is also liked. Beautiful work!
