Default Help with macro shots

I am newish to digital photography - have Fujipix S5000 but am aiming for a DSLR.

In any event, I want to do superb macros but am struggling, even with the macro function on my camera. The shots all appear out of focus.

Can someone please advise me what I am doing wrong - When I move further away from the camera, it doesn't really seem to help either. I am hoping someone out there will have some tips they can share with me.

regards and thanks

Liz

Do you have any shots you can post? When shooting tiny objects, camera shake can blur your picture. A tripod, better lighting, and faster shutter speed will help with shake.

Plus you have to account for "body shake" where you actually slightly move your camera backwards or forwards in and out from the subject. This can dramatically effect focus. I'm not familiar with your camera, but if it has a setting that let's it constantly adjust the focus for a moving target turn that on and it should correct the problem. If not, a tripod should prevent your camera from moving in and out of the focus.
