Default Wine paraphernalia

My wife and I are big wine buffs. She wants me to do some sort of a collage of cork photographs. I'm not really sure how to best photograph corks and was looking for some suggestions. The cork shot below was taken with a 100mm Canon Macro lens at f 2.8, exposure 1/200, ISO 200. I setup a work lamp to add a bit of a dramatic shadow to the cork and shot it against a piece of purple construction paper. The second shot is one of our favorite wine stoppers.

Suggestions on some cork shooting/compositions?

I would be inclined to use a smaller aperture to give more depth of field. I like the way the cork blurs off round the edges but I think that drop-off happens too quickly (and some of the writing is too close and thus also out of focus).

Are there notable features about the corks, like the text, that you want to pick out or is it just that you have accumulated a lot of them?

Yeah, once I got the images to my computer I was too satisfied with the DOF either. I think overall it's both the writing and the quantity. We have amassed quite a good deal of corks (and bottles).

Giya,

I like wine (red) too. Try to drink two glasses a day for pleasure and better health. Here's my idea for composition (a tad tongue in cheek but never-the-less):

Get about 20-30 corks all standing around like they are at a town meeting or something like that...with a wine screw cap (new guy) in the middle. And, of course, there is alot of excitement, yelling and they are asking this screw cap alot of pointed questions and making statements about how things have always been. The screw cap is shaking and nervous...you could work that out with a slow shutter speed and some tricky vibration of the screw cap.

What do you think of that? No charge.

Awesome idea!

The other thing I thought of was to somehow get a bunch of corks actually inside a wine bottle (a clear one). Your idea on the screwcap has given me a few other ideas too...

Thanks for the input. I'll post back some picks later this week.
