Default Demented Jelly Beans

This weekend I shot some glass pieces (used as markers in a board game) for the weekly assignment: "straight from the camera" in JPEG. I placed the glass, rounded on top and flatish on the bottom, in a clear glass bowl on a sheet of white paper in direct sunlight and shot using a tripod, being careful to keep them within my lens' focus range (thank you inkista). When I was finished with that I took a couple of more shots in RAW and then did some P/S work on this one. I'm fairly pleased with the results but could always use any more tips you all might offer. Personally I think that they look like demented jelly beans.

The only thing I would suggest would be to maybe fill the whole frame with the glass pieces-no white bits showing in the corners. The colours are beautiful-strong with varied light across them and powerful in the centre of the shot.

Murf, just a thought, but you might be able to create some VERY interesting effects by using some different lighting angles; perhaps a light source from the bottom of the bowl or through the side? Also, some water might add some cool effects. In any case, Great subject, I love the colours!

Thanks Mike, I'll try some of that, especially the one about the water. One of the many reasons that I enjoy these forums is the way that they force me to think more creatively.

Another suggestion I would add is that the glass itself is fairly scratched and not very "clear." To me eye it distracts from the overall composition. In trying some of the aforementioned lighting effects, I would keep an eye out for those that tend to minimize the visibility of the imperfections. You could also try polishing them up a bit.

To add to the lighting suggestions, I would try using multiple light sources if possible. Maybe even an array of LED's or something.
