Hi all,
I have begun considering shooting a bit of macro recently. My camera is a Sony A350 and the only "macro" i've been able to shoot is with a Quantaray 70-300 in macro setting (the Ritz lady made it sound too good, wished i hadn't fell for it). I don't really like the quality or colors coming from this though. Does anyone have a suggestion for a lower end true macro lens that would fit a Sony. Insects are a fave of mine so thats what I'm leaning towards shooting. I understand I get what I pay for, but I'm willing to even buy used and to get my foot in the door and see if I still like it. In other words more or less looking for a decent lens rather than a great lens. Thanks in advance |

Hi, I have A350's and use a sigma 70-300. I am pleased with the results for what I paid for it.

Any Sony users ever tried the Kenko lens extensions? I've ordered a set for an a330, waiting on the mail now and plan to try them with a few Tamron lenses, primarily 60mm and 70-200mm 1:1 lens. At $179.00, could be a good way to go for macro with a Sony, I'll find out soon...

No but I've been using the Canon fit ones for a few years without issue. Depends how heavy the lenses are you want to use....the lenses I use tend to weigh less than 1kg but if I was using bigger an heavier lenses I might be tempted to get some more expensive and better built tubes, for peace of mind if nothing else.
Kenko tubes have been excellent value for me....I hope they are for you too. FWIW the Sony 100mm macro is a cracker but if looking for a cheaper option my first choice is always the Tamron 90mm. Checkout the dyxum lens list if anybody wants a long list of macro lenses to choose from for Sony DSLRs..... Clicky for Dyxum Even though I use Canon I'd love one of those old Minolta 200mm f/4s......rare as hen's teeth and those that have them tend not to want to part with them. Not that I use lenses that long very often but it would be in my dream camera bag!

There are several ways to start MACRO on a tight budget.
One of the fastest ways is purchase a lens reverse ring, from ebay or your local camera shop. 49mm Sony Alpha Camera Mount Macro Reverse Ring Adapter - eBay (item 360209333102 end time Oct-14-10 19:08:45 PDT) Find a 28 to 50mm prime manual lens, with a manual apperture ring. Pawn shops are a good place to look for this. Of course there is also EBAY. You might need some filter step up or down rings to make them match, find the lens first, then the reverse ring. Check this thread for a little more info: http://digital-photography-school.co...ns-camera.html Here is my bellows setup: http://digital-photography-school.co...acro-gear.html There is a lot more if you go through the old threads in this section, but this will get you started. Have fun, Phil
