Help getting better colors

Hi all,

I'm new to photography and recently bought a nikon d3000 with a AF-S NIKKOR 18-55 mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens. I've been trying to get good colors without any luck currently. My photos are always somewhat grayish.

It's a little bit out of focus, sorry :-p

Is it just a bit over-exposed ??

overexposed (since the flower is blown out) and looks like wrong white balance (assuming the flower was white and not partially blue). Try setting the WB to flash -- which I always find to be pretty much neutral, and then adjust it in post if you need to.

thanks, I'll try tomorrow with some other settings until I find the proper settings for that particular situation.
