Default The first sign of new life

Im not entirely sure what exactly this is, other than it is some kind of plant/tree bud. Anyhow this was my very first attempt at a close up shot with my dslr. I personally like the DoF, and the relative sparseness of the photo.

I suspect it is an specimen of Edgeworthia chrysantha.

I love the bokeh, the way the background colours merge together, although I think it would be better cropped down a bit (losing the blue elements in the background to keep it to a simpler scheme).

I reckon you're right, it looks exactly like what I've got here, thanks
As for the cropping I also think you're probably right, it was a big picture to start with and I remember being a little frigthened by how much I had cropped it, wanting to crop a little more, but being way too scared of over cropping to do it. Now with the confidence boost you've just given me I think I might fight the fear and and pull out the digital sissors once more

That definitely brings out the detail of the, erm, fuzzy thing. Macro photography is about getting close so I think that helps the overall shot.
