Default Odd Flower

I'd like to know what is wrong with this picture or what can be adjusted to make it better? Is the exposure ok? Other ideas?

A Pink Flower
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 43.4 mm
ISO Speed: 64
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Auto, Did not fire

Thanks,

Wade

what a unique flower that is......did you ever learn the name of it?

your depth of field is great for this shot....you have the whole of the bloom in focus and a nicely blurred background...

the leaves are exposed properly......and your camera seems to be reading the scene as a whole correctly.....but, since your main subject is the flower and it's quite a bit lighter than those leaves....it would have been a good idea to either bracket exposures or exposed for the center of the flower by getting up close for a reading,......looking at a scene with varying degrees of lighting ,deciding what's the most important detail and exposing for that are good steps to take when you have the time to do so....

if you want to edit this.....you have a nicely detailed image to begin with.....i'm not sure if you boosted the color saturation, but its a bit strong......i've found that layering a desaturated copy over the background layer and reducing it's opacity is a nice fix for me....

Thank you peeper for your critique. No, I never did find out the name of the flower and there was no name plate in the area I took the picture. I don't remember if I messed with the saturation on this image or not, I was saturation happy one day and went through a bunch of photos and messed with the colors. I will try your suggestions.

Thanks again,

Wade
