Post Winter Flower

Hi all, I don't have a true macro lens, just some macro filters right now, but am still trying to take some good macro shots. I'd like to know what you think of this one. Perhaps I ought to crop it with more space to the right. I just realized it's almost centered. What about the focus? Thanks!

As an avid macro photographer I can honestly say I love this shot!!!!! The way it's focus gives interest to the shot...a little bit in focus but not too much. In regards to your crop question sometimes rules need to be broken and the flower looks nice centered. Don't let this stop you from trying other crops, who knows you might come across a crop you like more. Have you considered lightening up the background on the left side a bit to draw the eye to the flower more. Hope this helps!

BTW, what kind of flower is this?

Thanks you so much abchip for your response. I thought it looked ok cropped as is but just reading around the forum today I have seen so many "rule of thirds" comments so I was thinking maybe it might look better some other way.

I have been trying to identify the little beauty and can't figure out what it is. There are multiple blooms on an evergreen shrub near our apartment building. I've looked at online guides and pictures of plants native to Maryland, evergreen shrubs in general and haven't found anything that resembles it yet.

An evergreen, how interesting. I'll have to keep my eye out to see if we have those here in Colorado. Thanks for sharing!
