Default Roses

I got a new Canon T1i for Christmas ( My very first DSLR ) and am looking for tips on making my flower pictures sharper.....any suggestions...

Well, first off, I would say invest in a tripod and remote shutter release. They are invaluable for when you are dealing with small working distances.

Also, as a general rule of thumb to eliminate soft pictures due to camera shake, make sure your shutter speed is 1/(focal length). So, if you're shooting (hand-holding the camera) at 100mm, set your shutter speed to at least 1/100 sec. This isn't a strict rule, but it's just a guideline.

Keep in mind, too, that you'll have to deal with the depth of field factor. The depth of field is basically how much of the photograph is in focus. If you want more of the photo in focus, you'll need to use a smaller aperture (higher f-number). I assume you know how a smaller aperture affects the exposure triangle. Firstly, you HAVEN"T focused on the Red Rose but instead on the white small flowers on the right hand side. If you want the entire thing to be in focus then you'll need to use a smaller aperture.
