Default Growth at 20º below Wind chill

I also put this photo in the weekly assignment, but there's not a lot of room for feedback there. I like this shot, but there's always room to learn and improve. So, feedback on color, composition, and lighting would be greatly appreciated. After all, I took this shot in -20º windchill, so I had to work fast! Thank you!

The subject could benefit from being a bit sharper in contrast to the background - I don't know if the softness is because the focus was a bit off (macro DoF can be very narrow), the shutter speed too slow (camera shake becomes more apparent) or just down to the characteristics of your lens (some are softer, especially as you head towards smaller apertures).

I reckon you could get away with slightly reducing the exposure - a slightly faster shutter speed would help avoid shake and, if the problem wasn't narrow DoF, a wider aperture would let you adjust that still further.

Apart from that, you could apply some post processed sharpening. You may also want to consider a different way of framing the image; it would be possible to lose some room off the top.
