Default Christmas Rose

I took this today Nov 29th I was putting up Christmas lights so snuck a quick macro shot in while the wife wasn't looking. I was hand holding the camera so I apologize if its a bit bury. I shot it with a D3000 with a 50mm lens reversed with reversing ring at F22. I used the on-board flash because it was windy and needed a faster shutter speed. I would like to know what you think of the comp and depth of focus any advice is welcomed I am new and would love to know how to improve.

I wish I was able to see your picture, unfortunately it says it is unavailable. I do have a question regarding your reverse ring though. I too have a D3000 and I just purchased a reverse ring to do a little macro photography. However, when I screw the reverse ring to the filter threads on my lens and then mount the ring on my camera body and turn it on, the camera says that no lens is attached. Which ring did you buy? And am I maybe doing something wrong with mine?

Did you put the camera in manual exposure mode? Since there is no way for the CPU contacts on the lens to "talk" to the electronics in the body, manual mode is the way to go. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, that did the trick! Now I just need to apply some good lighting to be able to see anything, but at least it works now. Thanks again!

Just a quick message regarding the mention of needing more light. I forgot to adjust the aperture ring manually. Problem solved.

Good for you. What kind of lens are you using?

I just got a reversing ring myself, and use it with old 28mm and 50 mm primes (both have been "AI'd").

I am using an old Petri 55mm lens that used to be my dads. It works pretty well or at least well enough for me. In fact, my avatar was taken with my old Olympus camera with that Petri 55mm reverse mounted.
