Hello all,
As I mentioned before we have a small reptile breeding biz and I take all the pics for it. This is a pic of a flying gecko. These guys are wild caught ( which is why we are trying to breed them so no more get taken from the wild) and as such are aggressive. The best way to get pics of them is to have them bite your finger and hold on because then they stay still. Here is the shot : Details: F/2.8, Exp 1/6, ISO 400, Max apeture 3 , Metering mode Pattern, 35mm focal length 56 , Low saturation, Hard Sharpness, Contrast hard , Manual WB Let me know what you think abbout the following. Should I crop it or leave it the way it is? I did focus on the face so the body being blurry was intentional. Should I have done a different apeture to get more light? Flash maybe? I autofixed it and there is a lighter copy on the album you can look at. Chaos Last edited by Chaoslillith; 11-29-2009 at 04:23 PM. |

It appears to be quite grainy to me.
Maybe you could use a twig or something smaller for it to bite as your finger is a pretty big distraction. In an answer to your other question about cropping. yes, there is a lot of extras in the frame that are taking away the attention of your focal point. Your aperature would be fine but am afraid if you used an on camera flash it might be too harsh. Maybe try taking it by a window for some natural light

Some of the grain may be the geckos coloring, I have noticed the camera has a hard time with certain colors/patterns of the critters.
These guys are nocturnal so I would need to dig them out of their hiding places in the tanks to get sunlight but I may try that next time. I think the finger is too much though, I may be able to get them to bite on something else instead. Good idea on that. Thanks for the suggestions. |
