I really like the fact that you chose to shoot this at a totally diferent angle than one would normally see. The colors are great, the dof is great but I'm not toally sold on having most of the middle of the flower out of the frame. Thats just me tho

I think this is a great shot. Regarding the depth of field, I think you've used it wonderfully. If anything, I think you could limit depth of field a little more to blur out the connection of the large petals with the flower head, assuming the primary focus is on the little guys.
edit: Looking again, I disagree with myself; I think the detail in the connection of the petals adds interest to the shot. The color in this picture is great; the green leaf in the upper left really looks tender and delicate in contrast with the robust lower half of the frame. I LOVE the angle you chose. It makes for a dynamic image. And seeing all those florets from the side like this is fascinating. I also agree with DGreenawald about the tender-looking green leaf in the upper left. The color and the softness is just perfect.
The only thing that bothers me (a little) are the foreground petals (lower right). I just wish they were less prominent OR had a touch more detail. They don't need to be crisp, just show a tiny bit more texture. But this is a quibble. And it's MY quibble since I struggle with foreground blurry petals in macros all the time. Great image! |
