Default Butterfly

Butterfly close up

I took this photo in the evening sun. The light from the sun seems to give the butterfly a washed out look. What could I have changed to make it not look so washed out?

There was a blade of grass making a shadow on his wing. Lets ignore that right now.

Camera: Evolt 500
F number: f/8
Exp: 1/160 sec
ISO: 400

Great picture. Was there a little bit larger version that doesn't crop off the wing?

Can't help with processing as I am clueless on that.

Great picture! When I shoot outside in bright light, I shoot with an ISO at 200. Also, raising the Aperture will bring in more detail. Was your white balance set to direct sunlight? Finally, I shoot in RAW because you can do more in the post processing to correct issues such as this. Postprocessing: I use Aperture with my mac to bring in the highlights and tone down any washed out areas. Photoshop works well too!
