Smile My First picture of a flower.

Hey Everyone,

I have had my camera for about 2 weeks now. Played with it a little.

I took this picture @ home.

I am more of a composition person and wonder if I got it right in this picture.
More over did I make the right decision about not using a flash. This may not me a true macro but my lens was fully extended when i took this picture.

Just looking for inputs.
Any advice is welcome.

Im waiting to try this with a 50mm prime lens.

Canon 500D
18-200/IS
f/5.6
exposure 1/60s
ISO 1600

I'd like to ask you if there was a reason you had your iso at 1600? Having it so high will create grain in your image. Normally you wont want it even close to that high unless you are doing very low light photography and/or sports or something of the sort.

Watch the areas that are blown out. Once they are, there is no fixing them as all information embedded in that area is lost.

When photographing plants take the time to look at every possible angle of the flower to see which is the most flattering. Both for the flower as well as your background. What I notice is most of the red petal is hidden which makes for an odd appearance in your photo.
