Default Feathers - Focus and Composition

This is my first time sharing, as I'm just learning technique - I've been using a point and shoot and have just picked up a Nikon D40.

This shot was taken of a turkey at close range and I closely cropped it to get the feather detail. I also slightly saturated the colors. The feathers were so briilliantly colored and had such interesting patterns so my goal was to highlight those. I know I lost some focus when I cropped it, but I would like to know: a) if it's now too out of focus and, b) if it is adequately composed (I kept the break in the feathers for contrast and put it in the upper one-third corner/rule of thirds.)

Is it boring?Camera: Nikon D40
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/5.3
Focal Length: 165 mm
Focal Length: 164.7 mm
ISO Speed: 1100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire
