Default That's a knife

This is my first attempt at a "studio" product shot.
I rigged up some junkie lighting on a wrinkled sheet and fired off a few shots.
I kept the white balance on sunlight because I liked the warm feeling with the gold etching.

Do you agree?
How's the composition and crop?

Canon Rebel XS
f/5.6
ISO 200
1/8 sec
Focal length 55mm

Compostion could use some work, background should have been more interesting. And if i agree that this is a macro, what did you focus on anyway ??

The crop for that composition is okay, but I agree with KazeFox, the composition could use some work. As a product shot, it would have been nice to see the writing on the knife as that would have told us what it was, but I'm left wondering why you would use a macro of the knife for a product shot.

I like the shot. All I might do is increasy the F-stop a little to get just a tad more DOF. I think it would look cool if you could all the lettering in focus and still keeping the tip out of focus.

I think the DOF works nicely, but I would have tried to get the entire knife in frame instead of cropping the butt. I'm left wondering what the rest of the subject looks like.

I like to DOF, I think it's just right. However, the focus could've been set to the lettering since this is a product shot - you want people to remember the name and not make it out
