![]() I am an absolute beginner having my first DSLR for about a week. I am still learning the basics ie shutter speed and aperture, although macro photography fascinates me. Saw the spider by itself, quickly set up in the garden on a sunny day using a mini-tripod, when suddenly ..BAM! the prey drops into its web. I realise that even in macro pictures DOF plays an issue with trying to get all the subject(s) in focus....the reason I chose this picture from the series is because the major part of the focus is on the web streaming from the spiders abdomen while its prey is out of focus, which possibly lends a little more to the overall effect?? Image has been cropped obviously. Any hints, or what lenses to possibly look at for reeeeaaaalllllly close up appreciated. Ruts Camera: Canon EOS 300D Exposure: 1/800 Aperture: f/5.6 Focal Length: not sure... using a EFS 18-55mm lense (still have to understand them) ISO Speed: 400 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire |

Macro work is a wonderful thing and a lot of fun to capture!
This is such a phenominal shot but a pity that most of it is out of focus. I can deal with the grain (which is a fairly simple fix) I noticed your aperature is at F.5. Since macro shots are so tiny I rarely shoot more than an F20. Your mostly filling the frame with your image so worrying about your DOF is almost irrelevant.
