Default Piece of glass on a see shore

"Piece of glass on a sea shore". Sorry for title error.

[ Large Size ]

Hi everyone.

This is my first post. Nice to meet you all.

I've a couple of question on this shot.
- Do you think, as I do, DOF area is too short?
- I've rotated original picture about 15 degrees 'cause I think it looks better. What do you think?
- Exposition... Does it look good? Shot was taken about an hour before sunset.

Other suggestions? Your help will be surely appreciated.
Thank you.

Bye

Hi! I do like the angle, and I love the light on the glass and the sand (or tiny rocks)? I hope you don't mind, but I messed around with it a little - my personal preference is for the focal point (ie. the glass) to be more in the foreground, instead of a blurry foreground, which I find a little distracting. I also brought the contract up slightly and added a little more saturation. It's hard with macro stuff to keep in mind the limited range of focus. What do you think?

I actually liked the composition of the original picture a little better. I might have cropped it some, but not as much as you did here. The biggest issue for me is how close the color of the glass is to the color of the background. Perhaps the background could be darkened a little.

Of course, a lot of this is a matter of the photographer's vision of what he or she wants to capture in the picture.

First thanks to your comments.

@Martha
I prefer, as Linda and Katia, my original composition: in your edit the piece of glass isn't in the eye-capturing area and this is, in my opinion, more destruptive than foreground blur. On the other hand, I like your contrast and saturation adjustments. They minimize focus transitions...

@Linda
I think it's true that a little deeper contrast between sand and glass will increase shot strenght. Maybe a darker shadow of the glass will give me what I'm searching...

@Katia
Thank you

Hi,

frankling speaking in macro shots i tend to look for the finest details of the subject. very i first bought nikkor 105mm macro i tested it on a paper and it was showing the same result where center was focused and rest was blurred of out of focus.

however, when i put camera on tripod and fixed it in perfect alignment with subject the macro factor stood out.

as i am myself a beiginner, i subscribed to all forums and start my day with email from all sections. its a great way to learn fast.

good luck.
