I had earlier posted in this forum the following thread:
http://digital-photography-school.co...fall-leaf.html The suggestion for that was to try a different composition with an interesting background. This is my second try at macro - this time with a better background. I messed up by cutting off the portion of the flower. But, I'd like your comments on the background and composition in comparison to my earlier attempt. ![]() EXIF: Camera: Canon PowerShot A720 IS Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125) Aperture: f/4.0 Focal Length: 5.8 mm ISO Speed: 80 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire Metering Mode: Multi-segment Exposure Mode: Manual White Balance: Manual Macro Mode: Normal Canon Flash Mode: Off Focus Mode: Manual Focus (3) Camera ISO: 80 Focus Range: Manual Canon Exposure Mode: Manual AESetting: Normal AE Image Stabilization: On White Balance: Cloudy |

I actually liked the background that your fall leaf was on, but agree that there might have been a different angle to try to better capture the leaf.
Here I really like the composition you almost had (if the flower hadn't been cut off). I particularly like the clouds as a background. I prefer my macro photos though with an element off-center, and not taking up the entire shot. Alternately, a shot very tightly capturing only the center parts of the flower, with petals taking up the remainder of the view, might be quite nice. (I'm a total novice, so don't know what's "right" - I just know what I like in the photos I hang on my wall! Ha ha!)
