Default Frustration

I tried focusing manually and using auto focus as well as shooting continuously and single shots...nothing seemed to work. They just wouldn't sit on the dang flowers long enough.

Any help would be appreciated...

anything good

Super glue on the flowers!

I know just what you mean. I have yet to get a good crisp shot of those quick little guys.

The only bee I've ever gotten a good shot of was one that was for whatever reason sluggy and had half-passed out on the steps ( was by a pot of blooming flowers, maybe ate too much nectar? haha ). Even then it took quite a few shots to get something worth showing anyone.

Despite the difficulty in getting bee shots I think you did well here. The lighting makes me think of a warm, summer evening and I like how one wing is highlighted vs the other being in the shadow.

I guess all you can do is keep trying!

I have taken some pictures of bees. The only way that I was able to get anything decent was to focus on one flower and wait. It kind of looks like the sun was low in the sky in your picture. I shot mine while there was a lot of light out and got between 1/500 and 1/1000 shutter speeds. It takes some patience. Good luck.

Thanks guys....I kind of knew that it would be a case of trial and error involving patience, you've all reinforced that.

I do like the super glue idea though!

thanks for the feedback

cheers

I've taken about 200 bee shots, 3 of which are tolerable. You just have to find out which flower they're going to in advance, and then waiting. My advice is just take LOTS of shots.

Considering what you had to work with I think you did a decent job. Bees are so hard to capture. At least they are for me. I tried it yesterday. We have giant black carpenter bees in the yard and I was chasing them down for about an hour. They didn't like their picture being taken and they kept chasing me. I damn near fell in the pool... camera in hand

perhaps you could open up your lens. at f/1.8 you could increase your shutter speed to further freeze the bee!

What I did was focus on the flower manually and waited for them to show up. Looks kinda silly staring at a flower for so long but I did get the shots
