Nice shot, I love the contrast between the bright yellow flower and black background. I would crop out the top and left part of this image, all that negative space doesn't add much to the photo for me. The other shot you have links to are also quite good and they are both nice and tight with good composition.

Although I like black backgrounds, I think this image is neither 'macro' or as close as it could be for a 'close up' shot. Bright yellow (& red) colours are quite hard to get right.
In most parts the flower lacks detail, is soft in focus resulting in a mass of yellow. This may be down to the lens used.
You may get a better result by using anothe lighter background.

Trader,
Thanks for the kind words. Even I was not comfortable with all that negative space. It look better after cropping. Thanks for the suggestion.

Geodar,
I agree its not a macro. Just thought it to be the next logical section. Sorry for that.
Thanks for the suggestion. The lens I used is 50mm f1.8 which is very sharp lens, I think the soft areas are due to post processing that I have done.

meetshany, Welcome

If the bloom were perfect and in great focus and lit perfectly, the extra black space could be a way to accentuate all that. But that 1.8 aperture gave you limited depth of field, and the lighting looks as though it's overhead. So the extra space means attention is really on those negatives - and they can be fixed by resetting your camera and waiting for a different time of day.

When I shoot with an aperture of f/8, my DoF is about an inch, sharpness of detail is within that space front to back. I wait until the Sun is at an angle to give less reflection off the petals, and I try to include just a hint of background color. Black is dramatic, but can create a dead look if overdone.

You may want to try using your EVF to focus. Your other two blooms are about the same - not as sharp as they could be. Try different settings and shooting times, see what may work best for you.
