Default Nighttime Macro attempt

Midnight Sun

EXIF data:
camera: Canon Powershot S3 IS
exposure: .040s 1/25
aperture: F/2.7
focal length: 6.0mm
ISO 200
Flash off

I have been experimenting taking photos at night in the garden. Should I have tried to get more light reflected on the right side of the bloom? The color feels harsh to me, although I could edit that. Also is there a better way I could have composed or cropped this shot so that it would be more effective? Any critiques on this photo and thoughts on how i could do better on these types of shots in the future are welcome. Thank you.

I think the crop and composition is really good. The photo looks a touch soft, but that could just be my eyes. I'll let others weigh in on that one as well.

The only thing I would consider changing is maybe the red saturation a little bit. Some of the reds look a little over saturated, so I would try bumping that down a bit to see what that does. Other than that, I wouldn't do too much.

Nice capture!

Never seen a night time macro before, wonderful shot.

In Flickr, the outlines are somewhat soft. A sharpening can enhance it.
There are grains in the darker areas, a lower ISO will help.Or, are these post-processing artifacts?
IMO, shifting the flower a little towards the lower right would enhance the composition.

I think you did a great job with this shot. I wouldn't change a thing.

Thank you for all your replies. I will try everything and see how that goes. Maybe post my fixes if I have the opportunity. I appreciate your compliments and critiques.

mainak_ch - The graininess was due to my ISO, I was handholding my camera and was a bit afraid to lower the ISO and have to expose too long.
