is the composition and sharpness ok? does the rule of thirds work with this shot?

Hi cdgaskin - I think I would crop a little bit tighter on the bottom left side, sharpness is ok but all the shadows on the petals are really hurting my eyes. Try shooting at a different time, morning or afternoon when light is not so harsh.

Hi,
Based on your settings there shouldn't be a problem about sharpness. It is a bit difficult to see it close enough to see whether it is sharp or not... So, I guess it is...

About your composition question... I like your composition and I like very much when the core of the flower is off center, any other place out of the center in this kind of pitures makes it more dynamic and interesting. I really like it as it is, but I see that the shadows in the pettals take a lot my eye from what I think it is the main subject in your picture? the core of the flower?

The core of the flower has already a lot of detail, and I see that the shadows really compete for attention. Maybe if the contrast shadow petal were a bit less?

Irma.
