Default one of these days

I'll have a macro lens one day.. but until that day comes.... the nifty 50 will have to work. Also the flower is a daffodil.. not a buttercup.. i misnamed the file. I'd like opinions on composition here and DOF. Link to larger photo http://500px.com/photo/4886914

ISO 100
F/3.2
Shutter 1/100

If you want a cheaper solution to a macro lens buy an extension tube. All it does is bring the focal range closer. It would turn your 50mm lense into an awesome macro lense IMHO. As far as the daffodils go, try cropping closer to the main flower so as to occupy more of the screen. Your composition lead my eyes into all the empty space trying to find something to look at and steered my attention away from your main subject. Try cropping so the flower occupies most of the screen and the bud is in the background and post it here. I'd love to see how that looks

The new crop is attached . I think this is what you wanted to see. Also.. i dont have an issue at all shelling out the cash for a good lens. Im just waiting to do it till i get back from basic. Plus I ordered the Canon 24-105 f/4 L so thats my toy for now lol. Im gonna get the 100mm Macro lens next i think.
