Default Praying Statues - Composition?

Hello, I'd like to know what you guys think of the composition of this picture:

I think the background is a bit distracting, especially the glass (?) thing to the left. The eye typically goes towards the brightest area of an image first and mine went there right away, especially since the rest of the photo is pretty dark (maybe a bit underexposed).

Thanks for the tips, I will try to remember that next time... exposure is really hard for me, I never seem to get it right, lol. I wish I had another statue, so I'd have two on the background...
