Hi everyone! This is my second post here. I like taking close-up pictures and of nature, which is one of the thing I enjoy the most seeing. I don´t have any professional equipment and I wanted to get critiques on the composition on the original, unedited work, so I can see how I can improve in the future.

I'm looking forward to your critiques!

Hi - I am new here too and I am just a hobbyist, but not having any comments on your photo can sting and leave you wondering.

So for me I find the hair (or cobweb) hanging off the flower distracting and the shadow from the tree is also distracting, it is like that is the first place my eyes go.

other than cleaning the flower and taking the photo either at different time or from a different angle is about all I can offer - I am sure the others would have better advice,

I appreciated that you posted and wanted comments :-) keep clicking

Two suggestions:

Pay attention to background -- if you are trying to get a beautiful flower picture we don't want to see all that behind it ... it's distracting -- try different angles, get closer, crop more, etc.

Try a different time of day for better lighting ... looks like it was noonish there with harsh lighting on the top and shadow on the bottom ...

I agree with both comments above. Once you adjust those, then make sure to focus on the flower- the whole photo is blurry. Are you able to tell us what shutter speed and aperture you used? Also, try to find your camera's ISO settings.

In agreeing with the above comments I'm going to add one more suggestion. Bare with me for a moment lol. I'm going to compare this with portrait photography. When taking a portrait of someone, it's a general rule to have them looking into the frame as aposed to out of it, i.e. if the person is at camera left then he/she should be looking to the right and "into the picture". Now, it seems this rose's "face" is turned to the left and "looking" out of the frame. Maybe take it to the right of the picture frame? Great attempt at keeping to the rule of thirds!
