This is one of a variety of closeup images I recently shot. This is representative of my first attempts at closeup work. You may notice that the left edge of the ornament is slightly out of focus but the rest of it is in focus. I didn't expect this result since the difference in the distance from the lense to the left and right halves of the hood ornament isn't much. Overall the blurred background and event he blurring of the ridgeline on the hood worked as I expected.

Nice shot odf a classic Boyce Moto Meter, not only was it an ornament, but also served as a water temperature gauge. Some of them are very ornate and most are collectable..

When working from very close even very small apertures will give a shallow DOF. You could have used f/8-11 to get more DOF. Also remember that DOF will be 1/3 in front of the focus point and 2/3 behind...you might want to focus slightly "short" to make the most of that.
