Default Rings on a rose

I tried to create my own ring shot for my wife and I and this was my first attempt. I think that it is just above setting up the rings and taking a picture but it still seems to lack something. I tried to create a leading line with the rose stem and bud as well as create the simple background.

Is there a better way to compose the picture?
Is the light to hard? I used an off camera flash through a diffuser.

I am would appreciate any help bringing this picture to the next level.

Thanks

Rings (1 of 1)

Exposure 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture f/2.0
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 200
Flash On, Fired

I think it looks really nice. I wonder if the rings are getting lost in the colour of the rose. Maybe a red rose would give it more contrasting colours, or maybe the rings need to be a bit more saturated in colour, they look a bit washed out. The DOF is great.

Sorry, I guess I didn't actually answer your questions...oops! It feel the rose is a little too far to the left, I'm thinking you probably didn't want it centred, but the slight crop of the left side of the rose doesn't feel quite right to me. What if you had the space of the left side instead of the right so that the rose is leaning towards the middle of the frame?
As for the light, I think it may be a bit too bright. Maybe it was too close to the subject?

I don't know if it would help, or detract from the shot, but it may be worth trying- Try getting a colored sparkle from the diamonds in the camera

Nice idea, this is really cool. I like this, I've never seen anything like it before. Nice creativity! I'm sure your wife wife love it.

I like how you used a black background, that really looks good. It really makes the rose stand out better than a white background would have done. So nice job on that!

I also agree with Jay Elle Eff, though, a red rose might look better for this picture. There would be more contrast of colors between the rose and the rings.

Well, I don't really care much for how the rose is cut off on the right side- I think it would be better if you could see all of the rose. Was it taken like that, or did it get cut off when you cropped it?

That one big petal on the left side is a lot brighter than the rest of the rose. I keep looking at it instead of what I'm supposed to be looking at. It kind of distracts me.

BTW, I keep wondering this, How did you get the rings to stay on the rose?? Wouldn't they be so heavy that they would fall off of the petal they're sitting on?
Just my curiosity.

It's actually a pretty common wedding photographer shot. I don't like the pink rose. It in itself is a bit blah. I'd go for a red or a barbie colored pink rose. Everything seems crisp, a little harsh and a little washed out. To me it should be a little more wistful and romantic. Softer focus, softer background. Also, I think the rose is more of the focus than the rings in your photo.

Just Googling, I found this shot as an idea.

I like that one because the rose is a bit warmer. It also has less of the hard black background. The rose and the rings fill more of the shot.

It's a nice try -- now you can refine it! I think the lighting is too harsh, the background too black and the green stem/leaves are not interesting enough to add anything. I'd like to see more of the rose and less background ... and more of the rings and less rose!

Default Suggestions

The things I would have done to improve this are as follows:

Improve the compostion; less bacground and more flower/rings and preferably a red rose.
Increase the aperture to at least f11 to get more DOF. Mayby even consider focus stacking to get more in focus.
Decrease the flash output in order to avoid blown highlights. And maybe use one external flash on either side.
