Default Enough separation?

Hello,
I would be grateful for a critique on the following splash photograph I recently took. My main question is "Does there need to be more separation of the splash from the background?"

Purple Splash by MatthewKPhoto, on Flickr

Here is the metadata.
Nikon D5000
Tamron 60mm macro lens
SB700 flash placed to the right of the camera
A floor lamp to the right and slightly behind the subject
ISO 200
Fstop 22
Shutter speed 200

Other examples of the milk splashes I did that day can be found here.

WOW. From my untrained eye, I say it is perfect.

More separation would help, especially towards the back of the splash. The purple back there is a bit underexposed relative to the rest of the splash, and it kind of gets lost.

I'd also like to see the bottom of the bottom droplet not be cropped. (Just tell the liquids to stop while you reframe. ) You might be able to fix that with a bit of creative cloning.

I think I might also try to do something to either remove or enhance the spoon. Right now I can see it just enough to be distracted (and it leads out of the frame).

That said, this is a very nice shot. The colors and contrast work well, the lighting at the front of the splash is very good, and the shapes are very interesting.

Thank you both.

Doug.
I really appreciate your comments. I was wondering if I should remove the spoon. I think on my next shoot I will work minimizing it and then removing it so the focus is on the flash. The bit at the back is a bit dark.

Thank you both again for taking the time to look at and critique my photo.

Matthew

I think that in this one, cloning out the handle would be interesting, and I agree that it would have been better to lose a little at the top and get the bottom of that last drop.

and I know you didn't ask for feedback on this one

but this is exquisite! It looks like a piece of antique milk glass, art deco...just lovely. Very inspiring!

Thank you for sharing!
