Default Wet Red Leaf

Still doing some Fall Colors, and wanted to know if maybe the exposure might be a little under normal? Myself I like it, its kind of calming. But I've already found out, what I like aint always right. So if I could get some opinions I would appreciate it. Thanks Plus I'm still working on composition.

Camera Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd
Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture f/2.8
Focal Length 5.9 mm
ISO Speed 64

Wet Red Leaf

My monitor is very bright (pretty sure my retinas are about dead), so my answer may not be the general consensus, but I like that exposure. I tend to go for lower exposures (again, could be the monitor) just because the images don't hurt my eyes and often retain detail. Maybe one bracket lower would work as well.

If I were you, I might get a little bit closer and continue to fill the frame with the red leaf. I'm undecided as to whether or not I still like the leaf on the left since it's giving a crooked feel to the main element of the image. I would try to keep the pine needles that are creating a sort of border around the top right of the image; they really add to the image.

I really like the aperture on the image, the background feels just blurred enough as though I am looking at the leaf in front of me.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks Konge Torsk, for your wonderful and kind comments. I myself, tend to like the photos that aren't real bright. Its like my eyes are getting some relief. The dof I'm still working on, but I'm getting better at it. Thanks alot, you have been a great help.

Lovely colours and exposure. I find there is too much background in this photo and it distracts from the subject.

1. I would go much closer and focus on droplets of water on the leaf.
2. I would try to shoot from slightly different angle to:
a. have one of the droplets catch some light.
b. if possible, break the red of the foreground with some yellowish I can see in the background in proportion 70% to 30%.
c. if b not possible or as an additional shot, have the lines on the leaf go across the frame.
d. this all to prepare a shot to be cropped to 1:1 aspect ratio in PP

Hope it's helpful.

Thanks Tavi, you have definitely given me some different directions to consider on my next shot like this one. Your comments are very encouraging. Thanks John
