Default Chrysanthemum

Hi, this is my 1st posting of an image. it's also one of my 1st attempts at close-up/macro photography. i like the image, somewhat, but feel it is lacking "something" that would make it a good image. unfortunately i do not know what that something is. can anybody help me to improve my photography?

I like the image but the highlights seem to be a blown out for my taste. I don't know what PP software you have maybe you can play around with the exposure and tonal curves and try to bring the center part of the image down a little bit. If I get a chance I will try to play with it a little.

Good luck & keep shooting.

Here is what I came up with playing with it a little bit in LR3 & Viveza 2 from Nik. I don't know if it is better or not but it is a little different. Let me know what you think.
If you want I can remove the image .

Thank you Dave, i see what a difference you have made. it looks more punchy now. the software i'm using (but only just) is Nikon's Capture NX. like i say i'm very new to all of this and any help i can get will be appreciated.

Windrush thank you for telling me where to find the EXIF data (had to "Google" it to find out what it is!). i wasn't on Flicker until i tried to post the piccy. so that is something else for me to learn too. i'm in my 60's so maybe not as quick as youngsters at picking it all up. but hey, all life's a learning curve.

I think the first image is perfect - beautiful! Everyone's into "punchy" now but sometimes the soft delicate colors are beautiful too! Good job ...

I TOTALLY agree! The first picture looks very natural while the PP'd one looks cooked to me. About the only thing i'd do to the photo is give it a vignette.... its framable!
