Default Yellow Esperanza

Esperanza by The LoKW, on Flickr

Took this shot the other day as well of the yellow Esperanza in our backyard, curious as to any feedback on composition and PP as well as any other techniques to improve upon this type of shot. Many thanks for looking!

It is a great shot! I really like the composition. It is very simple and uncluttered. However, the vignette looks too much, specially on the top right corner. It is a little distracting. You could either make the whole background darker or reduce the vignette. But that's just me!

Samar, thanks much for the thoughtful feedback!

On the original I created a black fill layer, soflt light then removed that via sub-layer mask over the flower in an attempt to darken the background but highlight the blooms (I am new to Photoshop but attempting to get the hang of it) . Any tips on how to better apply this approach?

Below is the same image with a more traditional/subtle vignette. Better? It's very easy to overdo it with PP for me and I quickly lose a critical eye.

Thanks again!

Kevin

I actually don't see much if any vignetting in your shot, I think it's just the dark background that was present. When you "lightened it" the background becomes a bit of a distraction to me from the subject, which is the flowers. I'd perhaps crop a bit of the dark area from the right side, otherwise very well done!
