Default Yellow Magnolia

How is focus and exposure on this shot? I worked on it in LR3, Nik Color Efex Pro4 & Dfine 2.0 to remove noise. Did I overdo the PP? What do you think of the shot in general? Critique away, I am here to learn.

Yellow Magnolia-1

Exif:
Camera: Canon XSi
Lens: 18-55 @ 55mm
Exposure: 1/125 @ F/9.5
ISO: 800
Shot in shutter priority.

Thanks for looking & commenting.

Dave

I really like this. Great shot and composition. My only critique is that the crop is a little too tight. I would have liked to see the whole petal on the top right.

Thanks for the comment. I wish I had gotten the whole petal but I didn't maybe next time.

I agree with the crop comment, but, as you said, it's not something you can fix if you weren't able to get the entire subject into frame on the shot. As far as exposure goes, the highlights feel a touch harsh to me, but that is merely an opinion. Other than that, I like the shot!

try a tighter crop, if you missed all of the subject crop it even tighter.
I hope you dont mind(will remove if you do) but i wanted to have a play with your pic, I think it is a little washed out and needs a boost. Focus and DOF can be a very personal thing to me it needs just a little more in focus.
It is still a good pic as is, keep up the good work and look forward to seeing more.

Cheers Jo

@Jo.T - thanks for looking and taking the time to work with my photo, I think it does look better after your crop & changes. What changes did you make?
My problem is I am not very artistic so I just try to emulate what I see others do and sometimes that doesn't work out or I get it a little off. My wife tells me all the time that my artistic ability, or lack of, is what hurts my shots.

the tighter crop works better however, it takes some of the focus away. Its more focused in Dave's original but in my opinion as well, its a bit soft.
