Default Day Lilly in B&W

Taking pictures of flowers in my garden and wanted to try out some b&w pictures of flowers. This was one of my favorites and I was just wondering what you guys thought of it. Compostition? Exposure? More depth of field less depth of field? Any other way to improve the photo is welcome. Don't be timid, negative criticism will help me get better!

Exif Data:
Canon 20d
28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
135mm focal length
f/5.6
1/1000sec
Aperature Priority
Picture was taken at about 5:00 P.M. and it was a cloudless day.
ISO 100

I don't know if this would qualify as an idea: I think the flower is out of focus and the B&W conversion looks flat.

Take a look here:

Yes it's out of focus and just the bit of petal being cut off bothers me -- I think it should be the whole flower or a much tighter crop (in focus -- at least the center) -- more depth of field -- you could have used a much smaller aperture and brought your shutter speed way down ...
